This is terrible news for anyone who knew Ben and Fran. Ben was my mentor in the mid-70’s, and I would not have become a translator without his help and encouragement.
Besides being a translator and a theater aficionado, he was a kind and generous human being with a nimble mind. What a loss.

Since “el prevenido vale por dos” is an idiomatic saying whose loose translation (“when you’re forewarned you’re worth twice as much”) sounds weak and awkward to Anglo ears, I would just translate it into another common idiomatic saying with roughly the same meaning: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
