Preparing for the Consortium Oral Exam? Questions and concerns about it? Come join AATIA Interpreter Special Interest Group Saturday, April 14 from 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. at the International Center of Austin (ICA) at the corner of 2nd and Brazos Streets. and meet with Alejandro, a recent test-taker, to get first-hand insight on the format, grading, and scope of the exam. Ensure that you are preparing as smartly and efficiently as possible. We will also have some practice interpreting different sections of the exam. Today is the last day to register for the AATIA-sponsored court interpreting workshop to be held this Saturday, August 21st. This all-day workshop will feature two courses* approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR): Code of Professional Conduct in Court Interpreting and Illegal Drugs: Terminology and Other Useful Information. TDLR-licensed court interpreters will receive 8 hours of continuing education credit.

TIP-Lab is offering its twentieth Spanish Translation/Revision Workshop specially designed and tailored for professionals working in any country of the world who translate from English into Spanish. It will run from July through December 2009. Texts translated by the participants will be reviewed by a professional translator in Argentina, and returned to the participants with revisions and annotated comments. The emphasis will be on general interest topics with no particular focus on any specialized terminology or subject matter.

The National Center for Interpretation’s Agnese Haury Institute will take place July 14 to August 1. Applications are currently being accepted and there are still a few partial-scholarship opportunities left for the court interpeter training course.
Scholarships range from $250.00 to $1000.00 for all participants. For NAJIT and ATA members, contact the National Center for Interpretation to learn more about special scholarship offers. To apply for scholarships, download the application form and answer the essay questions to the best of your abilities. (Note: if you have already applied for a scholarship, your application has already been submitted to the scholarship committee for review.) Deadline for new applications is May 23, 2008.
